Last week, the DLN showed up in full force for Legends of La Cienega, the celebration of design in Los Angeles’s La Cienega Design Quarter. With nearly 50 DLN Members in attendance at the festivities, it was impossible to hit any part of the west coast design district without bumping into some of our community. And our Members turned out in a big way, too: From panels to launches to window decorations, the DLN lent its creative leadership to some of the best happenings of the week. Here were some of the highlights.

DLN Member LCDQ Windows

A staple of the Legends celebration each year, La Cienega’s brilliantly decorated windows included quite a few by DLN Members, who channeled this year’s theme of Fashion at Home in brilliantly creative ways. Meg Lonegran turned Farrow & Ball’s entrance into a roomscape in a hundred shades of blue, while John Ike turned the front of Philip Stiles into a cozy den decorated with copies of his own book. Paloma Contreras explored Paris as a muse at Visual Comfort, and Studio Life.Style brought boldly-colored tableware to Waterworks.

David Frazier set up a sculptural black-and-white showstopper at Mehraban, whose other window saw a Moroccan-inspired vignette by Michael Cox. On one side of Harbinger, Amy Meier devised a minimalist haberdashery studio, while Noz Nozawa conceived a colorful riff on Japanese garments on the other. In the window of Collective Form, Peti Lau created a dressing room inspired by Michelle Yeoh’s Oscars look, Kristine Paige lent a graphic statement to the front of Una Malan, and Meg Joannides dressed up the windows of McKinnon and Harris.

Workshop/APD Furniture Launch and Book Signing at Jackson Paige Interiors

DLN Member Kristine Paige entrusted the entire bungalow studio of Jackson Paige Interiors to Desiron, which promptly sent over a moving truck and swapped out the firm’s office furniture for its new line by Workshop/APD. Cofounder Matt Berman was on hand to introduce the collection at a celebration Tuesday, where he also shared insights from the firm’s first book. We trust Kristine’s office is back in working condition today!

Behind the Scenes at Nickey Kehoe

Many creatives will agree that no trip to LA is complete without a stop at Nickey Kehoe, where DLN Member Todd Nickey and his partner Amy Kehoe have created one of the most treasured sources for furniture, decor, antiques, textiles, and, with the addition of a Plain English shop-in-shop, kitchens! We joined Todd and Amy for a private tour of the showroom and an intimate discussion of how they built their distinctive brand—and how they continue to successfully grow the shop, which now includes the charming Housework, a design-minded take on a hardware store.

Save Iconic Architecture and Benjamin Moore at Dawnridge

With his background in theater and knack for (sometimes delightfully hairbrained) DIY, Tony Duquette created one of the most delightfully idiosyncratic residences in history at Dawnridge, the estate he shared with his painter wife, Beagle, where no single wall is unadorned. For its annual celebration, the nonprofit Save Iconic Architecture—founded by DLN Members Jamie Rummerfield and Ron Woodson—opened the doors to the estate for a night of sensory overload to benefit SIA’s efforts at preserving landmark buildings in Los Angeles. Earlier that day, Benjamin Moore—which has offered to supply paint to help in Duquette protégé Hutton Wilkinson’s painstaking upkeep of the property—hosted a private tour of the house and grounds, where visiting design lovers gaped at the dazzling details in every corner.

AAPI Design Alliance Happy Hour

To kick off the Asian American Pacific Islander Design Alliance, a group founded by mostly New York-based creatives last year, Collective Form and Peti Lau hosted an Asian-themed soirée in the showroom’s charming garden just off La Cienega. Guests sipped Vietnamese riffs on espresso martinis and snacked on Asian street foods like spiced noodles, chicken satay, and spring rolls, washed down with mochi gelato.

Community Dinners

Between all the festivities and programming, the DLN found time to connect with our community on a more intimate level with two community dinners. On Tuesday, we gathered at the Pendry, where two long tables under twinkling lights in the restaurant courtyard served as the backdrop to spirited conversations among some 36 Members and Partners. On Thursday, we convened in the private wine room at AOC, where we relished in a slow, relaxed dinner after a busy week—and made plans for our next gatherings.
